Excavatoion brown coal mine with evening sunlight near Garzweiler, Germany
This bucket-wheel excavator in this lignite mine is removing the top layer of earth, “overburden” above the coal, which will be moved by conveyor to an exhausted part of the mine. Different machines will excavate the coal. The residents in the background houses have been relocated to another location.
